Midweek chart update: La Roux narrowly behind Ed Sheeran in race for Number One

New album 'Trouble In Paradise' is only a few thousand sales behind Sheeran's 'X'

La Roux is battling Ed Sheeran in the race for this week’s Number One on the Official UK Albums Chart.

Elly Jackson is just 8,000 sales behind Sheeran, who recently topped Radio 1Xtra’s ‘Power List’.

‘Trouble In Paradise’, La Roux’s long awaited second album, was released on Monday (July 21) and at the midweek stage is at Number Two. Sheeran’s current album ‘X’, which holds the top spot, was released on June 20. The final chart placings will be revealed on BBC Radio 1 on Sunday (July 27).

Elsewhere in the Official Album Chart, folk veteran Richard Thompson is new at Number Nine today with his acoustic album, ‘Acoustic Classics’. Prog rockers Yes are also new at Number 10 with ‘Heaven And Earth’, their 21st studio album. Other new entries are due from King Creosote (15) and Ward Thomas (20).

Meanwhile, the Number One spot on the Official Singles Chart looks set to go to Cheryl Cole, whose new single ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ leads the current chart topper by Rixton. If she stays on top, Cheryl will celebrate a fourth solo Number One. She previously hit the landmark chart position four times as a member of Girls Aloud.

Further new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart at the midweek stage come from Charli XCX (3), Neon Jungle (9), Route 94 (10) and Cher Llloyd (29).
