A host of female musicians have collaborated on a song called ‘Go Forth, Feminist Warriors’.
The new track was written for teen blog Rookie and, says the site, is their feminist version of the 1985 charity single ‘We Are the World’, which was performed by a supergroup featuring the likes of Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper and Bob Dylan.
Waxahatchee, Kate Nash and former Sleater-Kinney/Wild Flag member Carrie Brownstein all sing on ‘Go Forth, Feminist Warriors’, which you can hear below. The song also features appearances from Tegan and Sara, MNDR, Kimya Dawson, Aimee Mann and Dee Dee Penny of the Dum Dum Girls.
The track was written by Katy Davidson of Key Losers/Gossip and Marianna Ritchey. Of the new song, Davidson commented: “We have never written a song that is directly about feminism before. I mean, we support so many movements, from feminism to environmentalism to equal rights for LGBT people, but ultimately we’re poets.”
