Third person dies following SXSW car crash

Sandy Le passes away in hospital following incident at US music festival last week (March 12)

A third person has died following the car crash at SXSW in Austin, Texas last week.

Sandy Le was among the 22 people injuredin the incident on March 12 when drink driver Rashad Owens drove down a busy street. She died from the injuries she sustained, The Austin American Statesman reports. Two people were previously confirmed to have died, while seven people remain in hospital.

“Anybody who had the privilege of knowing her would tell you she’s just full of life,” said brother in-law Stuart Gates, confirming Le’s death. “Not to sound cliché, she would just brighten up a room when she would walk in. She had an amazing quirkiness about her that was irreplaceable.”

As previously reported, Owens was an aspiring rapper who was scheduled to play a late-night show at Club 1808 on Wednesday night (March 13) before the incident in which two people were killed and a further 23 were injured.

The names of those killed in the crash have been named as Steven Craenmehr, 35, from Amsterdam, who worked for the MassiveMusic music agency, and local woman Jamie Ranae West, 27.
