The gong celebrates the best Liverpool act from the past year

The shortlist has been announced for the first ever GIT Award, celebrating the best Merseyside act from over the past 12 months.

12 acts have been shortlisted for the prize, which is named in honour of the Liverpool music blog, Getintothis. Nominees include Bill Ryder-Jones – pictured above – Stealing Sheep and The Tea Street Band.

The founder of the award, Peter Guy has said of the new gong and shortlist: “The first GIT Award shortlist highlights the wealth of new musical talent within Merseyside. The artists are ambitious and inventive, emotional and passionate, funny and profound. They evoke a sense of time and place, providing a wonderful snapshot of Merseyside’s varied sonic landscape proving why Liverpool is still the centre of the music universe.”
