Sam Smith, Neil Young and Sharon Van Etten lead new album releases (May 26)

Plus new albums from Hercules and Love Affair, Mariah Carey and Trash Talk

Sam Smith, Neil Young and Sharon Van Etten lead this week’s list of new album releases (May 26).

With three Number One singles already to his name, Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ marks the release of the 2014 winner of the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award’s debut solo album. The record features the songs ‘Stay With Me’ and ‘Money On My Mind’ as well as an acoustic version of Disclosure’s ‘Latch.’

Meanwhile, Neil Young releases a covers album recorded with Jack White. It features covers of tracks Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, The Everly Brothers and more. Young recorded the album in a refurbished 1947 Voice-o-Graph vinyl recording booth at the Third Man shop in Nashville, Tennessee.

A statement on Young’s website describes the record as: “an unheard collection of rediscovered songs from the past recorded on ancient electro-mechanical technology captures and unleashes the essence of something that could have been gone forever”.

‘Are We There’ by Sharon Van Etten is also released today and is the follow-up to her 2012 album ‘Tramp’. Speaking to NME previously about the album, she revealed: “I’m less censored every time I do a record. I’m like, ‘I think this is OK. I don’t think I’m freaking out. The only one I’m freaking out is me.’ This is really intense stuff to write and sing about.”
