Former Flying Pickets and ‘Twin Town’ star Brian Hibbard dies aged 65

Actor and singer passes away after suffering with cancer

Former Flying Pickets frontman Brian Hibbard has died at the age of 65 after battling cancer.

The Welsh singer, who went on to become a famous actor in Coronation Street, The Bill and the 1997 Swansea-set movie Twin Town starring Rhys Ifans, passed away this morning (June 18) with his wife Caroline at his side.

His health deteriorated rapidly eight weeks ago and he was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, reports BBC News.

The Flying Pickets came to prominence in the early 1980s after Hibbard formed the band with a group of other actors who used to sing in a coach on the way to appearances.

Their hit, ‘Only You’, which was a Yazoo cover, took them to Number One in the singles charts in 1983 for five weeks.

Hibbard later left the group to join 80s show Making Out, which was soundtracked by New Order, and The Bill.

From 1992 to 1993 he played Doug Murray in Coronation Street. His most recent short lived role was in EastEnders last summer when he played children’s home owner Henry Mason.
