‘The Voice’ winner Leanne Mitchell’s debut single set to flop

Singer's debut track 'Run To You' is currently Number 27 in the midweek singles chart

Leanne Mitchell, winner of BBC One’s reality singing show The Voice, looks set to see her debut single tank.

‘Run To You’, which she performed on the show on Saturday (June 2), is currently at a lowly Number 27 in the midweek charts. This is despite an audience of over 8.7 million tuning in to see her perform the track over the weekend.

Part of the explanation being given for the poor performance of ‘Run To You’ is that the track hasn’t officially been released as a ‘Winner’s Single’ and is only available to buy on digital download.

There has been better news for the show’s runner-up Bo Bruce, who entered the UK midweek album chart at Number 19 with her EP ‘Search The Night’.

Bruce, who was much fancied to win the series, recorded the collection of music before entering the show in 2010 and saw the EP vault up the iTunes chart following her defeat on Saturday.

As part of her prize for winning the show, Mitchell has been handed a £100,000 recording contract with Universal Music and is expected to release her debut album later this year. She will hope for a much higher chart placing when her debut album comes out.
