Simon Cowell says ‘The X Factor’ had become ‘boring’

The music mogul reveals how he became tired of the TV show

Simon Cowell has revealed that he was “bored” of The X Factor before it was re-vamped for the US.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Cowell said that he hit a low point with the show in 2009.

He said: “I literally stood up and said, ‘I can’t do this any more’.”

Cowell quit the UK version of the show in April.

He said: “We got back on a plane. I was in a filthy mood. I thought, ‘This show is boring. I don’t want to do it any more’. Then I got an idea. I wanted to shoot the auditions in an arena, like concerts.

“That’s when it crossed my mind this show is absolutely coming to America.”

The music mogul also revealed that he was nervous about the US launch, mainly because each episode costs £2.1million to make. He said he thought to himself: “This better bloody work or I am in huge trouble.”

The first episode of the US version of The X Factor is set to air stateside on September 21.
