Teenager dies at RockNess festival after suspected drugs overdose

The 19-year-old from Edinburgh has not yet been named

A 19-year-old teenager has died at RockNess festival, after a suspected drugs overdose.

PA reports that the man collapsed in the main area of the festival last night (June 9). He has since been named as Alex Herriot from Portobello in Edinburgh. He was taken to the hospital tent at the festival and stabilised before being transferred to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he died in the early hours of this morning (June 10) after failing to respond to treatment.

A police spokesman said drugs are suspected in playing a part in the teenager’s death. “Early indications are that the man may have consumed drugs and this is one of the lines of inquiry at this stage,” said a statement. “A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death. His next of kin have been informed.”

Two men were also killed after their van crashed with a bus which was taking people to the event, which takes place on the banks of Loch Ness. Mark McFarlane, 38, and Barry Murray, 28, were from the Glasgow area. 14 bus passengers were taken to hospital for a range of non-life threatening injuries.
