Kaiser Chiefs, Kate Nash assist in London riots clean-up

Indie stars get out their brooms

Kaiser Chiefs‘ singer Ricky Wilson and bassist Simon Rix, Kate Nash and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly‘s Sam Duckworth have all been assisting in the clean-up of London after the riots.

Wilson tweeted from his Twitter account Twitter.com/rickontour: “Camden Chalk Farm. Me and Simon will there in a bit with our brooms. Get to one near you today if you’re about.” He then wrote that he would be heading to Clapham to assist with the clean-up there and tweeted several pictures of the army of volunteers that have been helping.

Kate Nash has also been helping out, she wrote on her Twitter account Twitter.com/katenash this morning: “At the Bethnal Green clean up, nice to see so many people ready to help in the community!” and subsequently this afternoon: “Heading to Clapham now. Got my bin bags, need to find gloves.”

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly man Sam Duckworth has also been helping out, saying earlier that he would be active and was helping to spread the word.

Emmy The Great has also been helping out, writing on her Twitter account Twitter.com/emmy_the_great: “Area around All Saints Notting Hill Church has a lot of litter etc. Anyone nearby? Come with binbag and gloves.”

Last night saw the third consecutive evening of rioting, after a peaceful protest in Tottenham on Saturday (August 6) over the death of Mark Duggan during a police operation, turned violent. By last night, rioting and looting had spread to Hackey, Camden, Ealing, Clapham, and also spreading out into Birmingham.
