REM line up greatest hits compilation following their split

'Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982 – 2011' is set to feature new tracks from final recording sessions

R.E.M have announced plans for a greatest hits compilation just two days after they split up.

The band were apparently putting the finishing touches to ‘Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982 – 2011’ before they called it a day after 31 years on Wednesday (September 21).

A release date in the US has already been set for November 15, according to Amazon.com. A release date for the UK is yet to be set. It is thought the collection will include some new tracks recorded after their recent album ‘Collapse Into Now’.

The band have previously released a series of compilation albums, including their most recently released ‘And I Feel Fine… The Best of the I.R.S. Years 1982-1987’ in 2006.

The band formed alongside original drummer Bill Berry in 1980 in Athens, Georgia. R.E.M’s breakthrough record ‘Out Of Time’ – which featured the hit singles ‘Losing My Religion’ and ‘Shiny Happy People’ – was released in 1991 and saw the band become globally acclaimed. It was followed a year after by ‘Automatic For The People’, which, like ‘Out Of Time’, was Number One on the UK Albums Chart.
