Simon Cowell has seemingly admitted defeat in his battle with the music charity Rhythmix, according to reports.
The reality TV mogul and the children’s charity locked horns when an all-girl group on this year’s series of X Factor were given the name Rhythmix, despite it already being registered to the Brighton-based charity.
Show bosses changed the group’s name to Little Mix and withdrew their trademark application but were still involved in a legal battle with the charity until Friday, according to The Independent, when they agreed to make a donation to them.
Although the sum of money is unknown, it is thought it will be more than the £20,000 the charity has been forced to spend on legal fees to protect its trademark.
Rhythmix‘s chief executive Mark Davyd said:
We are very pleased that this has been brought to an amicable conclusion. These are difficult times for charities, and we are very pleased that we have been able to reach an agreement with SyCo to put this matter behind us.
In October, a Facebook campaign was launched to help Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ to the UK’s Christmas Number One spot ahead of the winner of this year’s X Factor, as a response to what fans perceived as “bullying” tactics by the reality show.
The campaign has garnered much support so far, with bookmakers Ladbrokes naming Nirvana as the second favourites to claim the yuletide spot at the top of the charts.
