John Lydon pays tribute to stepdaughter Ari Up in his introduction
Skins has been voted Best TV Show at this year’s Shockwaves NME Awards 2011.
The announcement was made tonight (February 23) at the London O2 Academy Brixton ceremony by guest presenter John Lydon.
In his intro, Lydon paid tribute to his wife’s daughter, Ari Up, lead singer of The Slits, who died aged 48 from cancer last year. The punk legend referred to his stepdaughter’s music as “a very important issue you should all give a round of applause for. Originality! Thank you Ari, we love you, we miss you.”
Four Skins cast members picked up the award, congratulating the cast from the last series.
The show came out on top ahead of The Inbetweeners, which won the honour last year.
Misfits, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Peep Show were the other nominated series.
