Simon Cowell quits UK ‘The X Factor’

Mogul's health concerns were contributing factor to decision

Simon Cowell has quit his post as a judge on the UK version of The X Factor.

The high-trousered music mogul had come to personify the ITV talent show that spawned the likes of Matt Cardle, but is now stepping away to concentrate on the US version of the show.

The Daily Mail reports that Cowell thought he would simply have too much on his plate if he agreed to be a judge on both sides of the Atlantic.

A source is quoted as saying: “Everyone in his family is worried about his stress levels, he barely sleeps and has got a lot to juggle at the moment.”

ITV had apparently offered to whisk him back and forth over the ocean in a private jet so he could appear on both shows. But ultimately that schedule would have proved too much even for work-mad Cowell.

Even before news broke of Cowell‘s step away, rumours were swirling about who might end up sat on this year’s UK judging panel. Lily Allen was quick to point out that no-one has approached her about the job, despite some publications claiming she was a shoo-in for the role.
