Four members of punk band walk out on Ben Foster

Four members of Screeching Weasel have walked out of the band after frontman Ben Foster punched fans at this year’s South By Southwest festival.

Ex-band members Dan Schafer, Adam Cargin, Justin Perkins and Drew Fredrichsen issued a statement in which they apologised for Foster‘s actions.

“The uncalculated act put forth by Ben Foster leading up to and including the violence that erupted on stage is seen by the band as shameful and embarrassing,” they said.

They added: “As a result, the band has discussed at length and has come to the conclusion that as a group we will not likely be able to muster the dignity to attempt a live performance as Screeching Weasel in the foreseeable future.”

Foster is now technically the only musician attached to the band name, with its latest incarnation effectively disbanded due to the walk-out. He was a founding member of the punk group, which formed in 1986.

The four departed members all joined in 2009 and played on the band’s new album ‘First World Manifesto’, which was released on March 14. It was the band’s first album in 10 years.
