“Even rock stars get breast cancer,” says Chrissy Amphlett
The former frontwoman of Australian pop rockers Divinyls has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Chrissy Amphlett, who also suffers from multiple sclerosis, fronted the band from 1980 to 1997 and then from 2006 to 2009 when they reformed.
The band are best known for their worldwide hit from 1991, ‘I Touch Myself’.
Amphlett is based in New York, but spoke to Australian publication The Age about the disease.
“My family knows so I thought I might as well come out with it,” said Amphlett. “It was going to come out sooner or later. I’ll get over it – I’ve got songs to sing, I’ve got stages to perform on. I’m a keep-on-going sort of girl.”
She added: “It’s shit and it’s unfair, but life is not fair – even rock stars get breast cancer. But there’s been many girls before me that have dealt with it successfully. It’s easy to feel sorry for me but I feel sorry for people who are suffering it alone.”
