Festival Republic and Live Nation take steps to tackle festival fraud

Tickets to be sent out sooner rather than later

Two major UK festival promoters – Festival Republic and Live Nation – have agreed to send out festival tickets to buyers as soon as possible, instead of waiting until just before the event, in an attempt to bring an end to ticket fraud.

Usually festival tickets are posted as close to the event as possible, but this new method should help to clamp down on ticket scams from fake websites.

The time delay was originally supposed to stop scammers from copying tickets but has instead meant that people buy tickets from fake merchants and assume they will turn up later, reports BBC News.

Deputy Chief Superintendent Steve Head, of the City of London Police, says sending out tickets immediately should cut down on this kind of crime.

“We believe that [posting tickets early] would stop a lot of people being the victims, because we’d be able to act on it quicker, convicting the kind of people we want to convict.”

“It’s not about business,” he added, “they are fraudsters”
