Online touts selling music and sports tickets are making as much as £28,000 profit per year, according to a new study.
Security group G4S, who carried out new research into touting, found that to earn that amount, a “committed tout” would need to sell an average of 10 tickets a week.
The research also found that on average, touts make a typical profit of 59 per cent on each ticket’s original price, though this has fallen from 64 per cent in 2009 reports BBC News.
Tickets for this year’s Reading Festival are being offered online with an average mark-up of 32 per cent, according to the report.
Under UK law, it is currently legal to resell gig tickets for inflated prices in the UK, although many promoters argue that to do so is against the “terms and conditions” under which they issue tickets.
