Man accused of killing US rapper Dolla cleared of murder

Aubrey Louis Berry shot in self defence, court hears

The man accused of killing US rapper Dolla last year in Los Angeles has been cleared of the charge.

Aubrey Louis Berry was accused of murdering the rapper, real name Roderick Anthony Burton (pictured), on May 18, 2009 at the city’s Beverly Center shopping mall.

Berry claimed he shot in self-defence, and today (May 24) he was cleared by an Los Angeles jury, reports BBC News.

Prosecutors had claimed that Berry ordered his car to be delivered back to him by the mall’s valet service team while he was still holding the gun used to kill Burton, but his defence team said he had feared for his life during the incident.

The pair were involved in an altercation in Atlanta in the weeks prior to the shooting. Berry was cleared of one murder and two assault charges.
