Dean Turner passes away after battle with cancer

Dean Turner, bass player with Magic Dirt, has died aged 37.

A founding member of the Australian guitar band, who played with bands such as Hole, Sonic Youth and Pavement, Magic Dirt released their debut album ‘Friends in Danger’ in 1996.

Turner succumbed to a rare form of deep tissue cancer on Friday (August 21). The musician and record producer is survived by a wife and two daughters.

Magic Dirt had been due to play two shows, one on the day Turner died and the other the day after in the state of Victoria, Australia, but the first was cancelled and the other postponed.

It is unknown whether the band will play the show which is scheduled for Sydney this Friday (August 28).
