Raygun help kick off V Festival day one

YouTube stars play afternoon tent slot

Raygun helped to kick off the V Festival this afternoon (August 22) in Chelmsford, playing in the Virgin Media Union tent.

The indie-pop troupe – who were recently the subject of ridicule following an interview in which singer Ray Gun spouted a slew of cliches – were in energetic form throughout their set, climbing amps and dancing manically.

Gun began thrusting his crotch area frantically forwards and backwards over his theremin instrument during opener ‘Just Because’, but changed the song’s lyrics to make them more sanitised. Instead of singing the original lyric, “Can’t stop thinking about doing a line,” he sang, “Can’t stop thinking about blowing my mind.”

The frontman later referenced the famous video interview (which you can watch by clicking below). “Where’s my mojito?” he asked, referencing his interview comment, in which he claimed the band might do something crazy such as “drink mojitos at 11 in the morning”.

The band ended their set with ‘See You Later’, with Gun leaping into the crowd before clambering back on for more crotch-thrusts then heading offstage.

Raygun played:

‘Just Because’
‘Can’t Say No’
‘Waiting In Line’
‘Lord Forgive Me’
‘See You Later’
