Smokey Robinson to be honoured in LA

Ceremony will feature award-winning performers

Smokey Robinson will be honoured with the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award at a ceremony in Los Angeles next month.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers will present the award to the legendary singer-songwriter as part of the organisation’s 22nd annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, which is set to take place on June 26 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

“Smokey is one of the most gifted and influential artists of our time,” ASCAP President Paul Williams said in a statement. “His superb accomplishments as a songwriter and performer, a founding member of the Miracles and his association with Motown Records have helped write a significant and enduring chapter in American musical history.”

The evening will also feature performances by several award-winning songwriters and performers who have yet to be announced. Past honourees have included P Diddy, Dr Dre, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Timbaland.
