Viola Beach’s ‘Swings & Waterslides’ to enter the Official Singles Chart Top 10

Band's debut single continues to climb charts after tragic accident

Viola Beach are looking set to climb to this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10 after all four members and their manager were killed in a tragic accident last weekend.

Earlier this week on Monday 15 February, the band’s debut single ‘Swings & Waterslides’ entered the Official Singles Chart Top 40 at Number 39, after sales of the single rocketed after news broke of their accident.

As previously reported, the band, comprising of members Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin, plus their manager Craig Tarry were killed in a car crash in Sweden when their car plunged 80ft off a bridge in Stockholm on Saturday, February 13.

Police previously said that the car hit a barrier and fell through a gap in the bridge which had opened up to let a passing boat through, with an inquiry into the incident now set to take place.

Now, theOfficial Charts Company has confirmed that their debut single ‘Swings & Waterslides’ has risen 30 places on today’s Official Chart Update (Wednesday February 17) – less than a week after the tragic accident took place.

The song is expected to continue to climb up this week’s chart as public support and fan-led campaigns continue to grow, with ‘Swings & Waterslides’ final position to be confirmed on Friday (February 19).

The group’s record label Communion have confirmed that the proceeds from sale of singles will go to the families of the band and manager.
