Blur producer invites newcomers to be last to record in Led Zep studio

Stephen Street marks closure of Olympic Studios with new session

London band Flashguns have had the honour of being among the last bands to record at the legendary Olympic Studios thanks to Blur and The Smiths‘ producer.

The band, who release single ‘Locarno’ on March 9, were officially the last band to record at the London[/’b] studios used by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Oasis and The Rolling Stones, after been invited to record with Stephen Street.

“We went into the studio with legendary producer Stephen Street who very kindly offered it to us for free,” the band explained. “It turned out that we were the last band to ever record at the Olympic Studios – pipped U2 by mere minutes.”

Street told NME.COM he had picked the band after been impressed with them live.

“I’ve seen Flashguns a couple of gigs in London and was blown away by their energy and way with melody,” he said. “The incredible thing is that it’s all so early in their development and they are going to get better and better. Definitely one to watch in 09!”
