Abdul appears in comedian's forthcoming film
‘American Idol’ judge Paula Abdul has admitted that she failed to realise she was being set up by Sacha Baron Cohen as the pair were filmed for the comedian’s forthcoming film, ‘Bruno’.
Abdul made the admission on US radio show the Johnjay And Rich Show, explaining how Baron Cohen fooled her into thinking that Bruno was abusing two Mexican men.
She explained: “I’m greeted by this futuristic dude with a Mohawk, and he’s flaming. I walk in and there was no furniture except a chair. This guy Bruno introduces himself. He snaps his fingers and says, ‘Gardeners’.
“These two Mexican guys come in, and they drop down to all fours. I see him paying them like, ten bucks.”
Abdul said she left after Bruno kicked one of the men. “I said, ‘Get me out of here. This is crazy. This is not funny, this is discrimination. This is abusive stuff going on here’.”
The TV judge said that she remained unaware that she had been set up until weeks later, when the penny dropped. “At two in the morning I woke up in a sweat and I went, ‘Oh my God’!” she said. “I’m dying, because you don’t expect it.”
