Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones has been subjected to a racist hack, after her website was flooded with personal photos and racist insults.
Jones temporarily quit Twitter last month after receiving a torrent of racial abuse on the website. Breitbart writer Milo Yiannopoulos was permanently suspended from Twitter for targeting Jones.
According to the Radio Times, private photos stolen from her iCloud account, copies of her driving license and passport, her phone number and Twitter password were all published on the Tumblr site. The Tumblr site has since been deleted.
An all-female reboot of Ghostbusters starring Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon made $46million (£34.7m) at US box office in its opening weekend in North America, beaten to the number one spot by The Secret Life Of Pets.
After accusations of misogyny directed at the cast by some online commenters, Jones spoke out about the racist abuse she has faced surrounding the film’s release. In a series of tweets, Jones wrote, “I feel like I’m in a personal hell. I didn’t do anything to deserve this. It’s just too much. It shouldn’t be like this. So hurt right now.”
Jones’s return to Twitter last month was timed with her appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. She told the host that the trolling debacle was like eating in her “favourite restaurant” but, “three people just got shot in front of me. Y’all need to get some security.”
She insisted, “I did not leave Twitter. I just signed out, because I wanted to deal with what was going on.”
