‘Dr Who’ music voted ‘best sci-fi theme tune’

The show's theme music is voted top of the class in an online poll

The theme music from sci-fi TV show ‘Dr Who’ has been voted the best sci-fi theme tune ever in a new online poll.

Users of the Total Sci-Fi website, which can be found at Dwscifi.com, voted for the theme song ahead of rivals including the music from ‘Red Dwarf’, ‘The X-Files’ and ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’.

The theme music was originally composed in 1963 by Ron Grainer, then arranged by Delia Derbyshire at the BBC‘s Radiophonic Workshop.

Matt McAllister, editor of the website, told BBC News that the song was “instantly recognisable to fans just by its opening bars”.
