Hudson family murder suspect denied bail

William Balfour is remanded in custody

The sole suspect in the murders of the family of Oscar-winning singer-actress Jennifer Hudson may have killed because he thought his wife was seeing another man.

William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia, was detained by police over a month ago, following the murders of Hudson‘s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew.

Balfour’s bail was denied at a hearing yesterday (December 3) in Chicago, after prosecutor LuAnn Snow told the court that Balfour had warned Julia Hudson that “her family would suffer if he saw her with other men,” reports CNN.

Balfour apparently went to the Hudson family home on Chicago’s South Side the day after Julia Hudson celebrated her birthday, and seeing a present, concluded it was from a boyfriend.

Balfour’s defense lawyer Josh Kutnick says the case is “a quilt with holes in it” and say that Balfour “believes when the evidence comes out, he will be found not guilty”.

He has been the only suspect in the murder case since the bodies of Hudson‘s mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, and older brother, Jason were discovered in the Hudson family home on Chicago’s South Side. Seven-year-old Julian King’s body was found in an SUV some days later. All died from gunshot wounds.

Last month investigators showed a court evidence that Balfour had a gun that matched the one used to kill all three victims.

The next court date is set for December 30.
