Midweek chart update: James Bay set to replace Kendrick Lamar with Number One album

New entries also come from Laura Marling, The Cribs, Courtney Barnett and Seasick Steve

James Bay is Number One in the Official Album Chart at today’s midweek stage with his debut album ‘Chaos & The Calm’.

The album was released on Monday (March 23). Official Chart Company data reveals that the album is Number One at today’s midweek stage and is outselling the rest of the Top Five combined. Bay, therefore, is likely to topple Kendrick Lamar from Number One when the full chart is revealed later this week.

Other new entries so far this week come from Laura Marling (pictured right) who enters the chart at Number Three with her fifth album ‘Short Movie’. Other new entries in this week’s Official Album Chart at today’s midweek stage include Seasick Steve (5), The Cribs (7), The Staves (8), Courtney Barnett (10), Joe Bonamassa (18), While She Sleeps (21), Toto (25), Action Bronson (27), Jermain Jackman (29), Gun (30) and Earl Sweatshirt (36).

Meanwhile, in the Official UK Singles Chart, Jess Glynne looks set to debut at Number One with her single ‘Hold My Hand’.

‘Hold My Hand’ will be Glynne’s third Number One in total, having previously reached the top spot twice last year, featuring on Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ and also provided guest vocals on Route 94’s chart-topping ‘My Love’.

The full chart rundown is announced on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday (March 29).
