Oxfam receives ‘record’ record donation

Up to 4,000 vinyl LPs are up for grabs

Oxfam is holding a special charity auction after receiving a huge donation of vinyl LPs.

Up to 4,000 classical vinyl LPs, believed to be worth in excess of £25,000, have been donated to a shop on Market Street in Tavistock, Devon.

The collection covers every genre of classical music, from works by Bach and Haydn to modern composers including Cage and Reich, along with Indian classical music rarities.

The donation was made by a widow who gave her husband’s entire collection to the shop.

A few records from the collection have already gone on sale with prices ranging from £1.99 to £150.

Recently, Oxfam auctioned off a rare demo from The Rolling Stones, a sheet of music signed by composer Vaughan Williams and a Handel musical score from 1786.
