Rescue dogs delivering phone chargers to festival-goers at SXSW

Rescue dogs are being used to deliver portable mobile phone chargers to festival-goers at this year’s South By Southwest music showcase in Austin, Texas.

The scheme is a joint venture between St. Bernard Rescue Foundation and the Mophie portable charger company. It works by punters tweeting their location to the @Mophie Twitter account, which will then lead to a dog and handler coming to their ‘rescue’ with an external battery supply.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Mophie to help raise awareness and hopefully find safe and loving homes for these dogs,” Olive Ashwell, St Bernard’s marketing manager, said of the project. “There’s a shared sense of passion between both our organizations as this amazing partnership launches at SXSW.”

Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg was recently announced as this year’s Keynote Speaker at SXSW. The rapper and actor will address the industry conference in Austin, Texas on Friday, March 20 at 11am in the Austin Convention Center.

The rapper follows Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl and Lady Gaga in giving the talk.

NME have also announced its day party at SXSW, which will feature performances from Kate Tempest and Matthew E White.

The event – which is run in conjunction with Austin City Limits – will take place at the GSD&M courtyard at 828 W 6th Street in Austin, Texas from 10am-2pm on Thursday March 19. Max Frost, Anderson East, Kristin Diable, Riders Against The Storm and Grace London will also perform.

SXSW 2015 runs from March 13-22. Music events start on 17 March.
