Strong showings for Bruce Springsteen and Eminem too...

Nominations for the 2003 GRAMMY Awards have been announced, with newcomers AVRIL LAVIGNE and NORAH JONES making their presence felt.

Rap superstar Eminem and veteran Nickelback also had a strong showing.

With more than a hundred categories, the 45th annual awards are held at Madison Square Garden in New York on February 22.

In the key category of Record Of The Year, Eminem‘s ‘Without Me’ is challenged by Bruce Springsteen‘s ‘How You Remind Me’, Jones’ ‘Don’t Know Why’, Vanessa Carlton’s ‘A Thousand Miles’ and ‘Dilemma’ by Nelly

featuring Kelly Rowland.

In the Album Of The Year category, ‘The Eminem Show’ is up against The Dixie Chicks’ ‘Home’, Jones’ ‘Come Away With Me’, Nelly‘s ‘Nellyville’ and Soundtrack Of Our Lives‘s ‘The Rising’.

Lavigne and Soundtrack Of Our Lives both also crop up in the Songwriters’ category, while she and Jones go head to head in the Best New Artist category, with a field including Ashanti, Michelle Branch and John Mayer.

Both are also competing in the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance section, which also includes Britney Spears and [/a], and Lavigne emerges yet again in the Female Rock category, with ‘Sk8r Boi’.

In the Best Rock Performance By A Group section, Brits Coldplay are running against Aerosmith, Creed and U2.

In the Best Alternative Album category, Coldplay take on Beck, [a], Elvis Costello and [a][/a].
