The veteran broadcaster and student hero's work is acknowledged by Bradford University...

Veteran broadcaster JOHN PEEL is to receive an HONORARY DOCTORATE from the UNIVERSITY OF BRADFORD.

Peel will be bestowed with the Doctor Of Letters degree at a ceremony in the University on December 7. The honour recognises contributions to the field of popular music over the past 35 years in particular, for his achievements as a broadcaster, a statement from the University reports.

Later, Peel, responsible for introducing Britain to bands such as Hellacopters, Marc Bolan, Pixies and The Fall, will take part in a live broadcast on Bradford student radio station RamAir to help mark their 21st anniversary.

It is not the first time Peel has been so honoured. In December last year he was awarded an honorary Doctor Of Music degree from his hometown Liverpool University.
