NAPSTER has announced that it is to be affiliated to MUSICNET, the world’s first digital music distribution platform for downloading and streaming music.
The announcement came yesterday (June 5) from Napster, who now become the third file-sharing Internet site to team with MusicNet, joining RealNetworks and AOL.
The MusicNet-based subscription service is expected to be online later in the summer.
As previously announced, BMG Entertainment, EMI Recorded Music
and Warner Music Group have done a deal with Napster which will permit their content to be delivered to Napster at such time as Napster is operating in, according to the statement, “a legal, non-infringing manner and has successfully deployed a technology that accurately tracks the identity of files on the service.”
