John Walters passes away aged 63...

Former BBC radio producer and broadcaster JOHN WALTERS, best known as JOHN PEEL’s producer, has died suddenly aged 63.

Walters joined Radio 1 in 1967 and aside from producing – and often appearing in – Peel’s groundbreaking show, also presented a number of shows on BBC radio himself, including ‘Walters’ Weekly’ on BBC Radio 1 and ‘Idle Thoughts’ on Radio 4.

A former comprehensive schoolteacher, he was also a trumpeter with the Alan Price Set. He retired from the BBC in 1991.

Helen Boaden, the controller of BBC Radio 4, said: “John Walters was a wry and witty broadcaster of immense experience. We shall miss him.”

The cause of death has not yet been released.
