J-Ro says he was inspired to start a compilation album just days after he heard the ex-Zapp man had been murdered by his brother...

THA LIKS‘ J-RO is masterminding a tribute album to murdered funk legend ROGER TROUTMAN.

Troutman was leader of family band Zapp, who influenced many hiphop heads from EPMD to Tupac. He was shot by his brother Larry in April 1999, who then turned the gun on himself.

J-Ro told that he was deeply affected by the tragedy and felt inspired to start the compilation two days after he heard the news.

He said that “just about every rapper on the West Coast” has contributed renditions of Troutman’s songs.

Snoop Dogg and Kurupt are among those featured. Tentatively titled ‘A Tribute To Roger’, J-Ro wants to independently release the album before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Tha Liks make their eagerly awaited return with the album ‘X.O. Experience’, on June 26.
