NME.COM beats a strong field to scoop the award for Best UK Website at the Periodical Publishers Association Awards...

NME.COM has been crowned the BEST UK WEBSITE at the prestigious PERIODICAL PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION (PPA) AWARDS, the UK magazine publishing industry’s equivalent of the OSCARS.

The site was voted the UK’s best, ahead of other non-music based sites such as FHM.COM and newwoman.co.uk, at the lavish ceremony in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel last night (May 9).

Judges said that NME.COM got the vote because: “It is the UK and Europe’s most successful online provider of music news, reviews, opinion and interaction.

“Even the bands are beginning to fear NME.COM’s reputation for breaking news,” they added. They quoted a Radiohead press conference in New York which said, “The reason we are sending this information [the album title] to you right now is because our hand has been forced by NME which is fighting hard to get every conceivable piece of information about the band first and out it on its website – which is actually really worth checking out.”

Everyone at NME.COM would like to thank all of you for all of your support and for coming back again and again – we couldn’t have done it without you and all your comments, suggestions and criticisms.

It’s an amazing award to win and it’s great to be recognised, but basically it’s an award for you lot. So thanks again for everything.
