Hip-Hop old guard heavyweight SUGE KNIGHT and super-producer Dr Dre have been confirmed as speakers at next week’s Valentine’s Day West Coast Hip-Hop summit at the FOUR SEASONS HOTEL in BEVERLY HILLS.
Controversial Nation Of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan has been pencilled in to deliver the keynote address at the conference, continuing his close ties with the movers and shakers in Hip-Hop which were cemented when he addressed the first national US summit in New York last June. Russell Simmons, the driving force behind the push for unity and greater social awareness in Hip-Hop by starting the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, will send a videotaped message to be played at the summit.
A number of other players involved with West Coast Hip-Hop will also attend.
The conference is being held to lay the groundwork for the second national summit, scheduled again for June at an undisclosed location. Amongst the items on the agenda will be debates on political and economic empowerment in Hip-Hop as well as Hip-Hop’s relationship with regulatory federal agencies, reports Billboard.
