The star's lawyer says he's "absolutely not guilty"...

C-MURDER, arrested last week on suspicion of second-degree murder, is the victim of mistaken identity, his lawyer has claimed.

The rapper, brother of No Limit Records founder Master P, was arrested last week (January 18) after allegedly shooting and killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas with a single gunshot to the chest following an argument at the Platinum Club in Harvey, Louisiana, on January 12.

His lawyer, Roy Maughan Jr, said police arrested the wrong man. “He thinks it’s very unfortunate that this young man was killed,” Maughan said. “But he’s absolutely not guilty.”

C-Murder, real name Corey Miller, is being held at Jefferson Correctional Facility in Gretna, Louisiana. He may have some time to wait until his day in court. The Jefferson Parish authorities are still reviewing the case, MTV reports, and have yet to assign a case number, meaning no charges have been formally made. Depending on the number of witnesses police need to talk to and the weight of evidence needed to be considered to decide if it is indeed a prosecutable case, the charges may not be brought for 30 to 40 days.

If convicted on the second degree murder charge, he could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. It had been feared he could face the death penalty, but Louisiana only enacts that on a first degree murder charge.
