Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding and Lady Gaga receive nominations at 2016 Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais will host the awards ceremony for the third time in January

The nominations for next year’s Golden Globes have been announced, with a handful of musicians among those in the frame.

The annual ceremony celebrates the best of in film and television. The 2016 event will take place on January 10, with Ricky Gervais serving as host for the third time.

Singer Lady Gaga has received a Best TV Actress nomination for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel, alongside Queen Latifah, who is shortlisted for her appearance in HBO’s Bessie.

The Best Original Song category features Sam Smith‘s Bond theme ‘Writing’s On The Wall’, which was penned for the latest instalment in the franchise, Spectre. Ellie Goulding also receives a nod for 50 Shades of Grey track ‘Love Me Like You Do’.

Meanwhile, George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, Ridley Scott’s The Martian and Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight have all picked up multiple nominations.

Mad Max: Fury Road will compete against Carol, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight for the Best Motion Picture, Drama prize, while The Martian has been nominated in the Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical category alongside The Big Short, Joy, Spy and Trainwreck.
