Music world reacts to England’s Euro 2016 exit against Iceland

English team lost 2-1 to minnows Iceland

The music world has reacted to news that England are out of the Euro 2016 football tournament.

Having finished second in their group (runner-up to Wales), England faced minnows Iceland in Nice. Iceland were among the lowest-ranked teams in the European Championship, with a national population of just 330,000 – compared to England 53 million.

Despite taking the lead through a Wayne Rooney converted penalty, Iceland came back to beat England 2-1, a result that led to the English team’s exit from the tournament, failing to make it past the last 16. Manager Roy Hodgson resigned following the result.

Ghostpoet took to Twitter to bemoan the result, writing, “England out of Europe. Twice in one bloody week. Wow”, while Shura added, “Cue England’s self destruct button”.

Billy Bragg, meanwhile, said that “It looked and felt like England were playing against Leicester City tonight” and Blood Orange joked to “Get me on the England squad”.
