'Catch The Throne' accompanies the fifth season of the hit HBO show
The album, entitled ‘Catch The Throne: The Mixtape Vol 2’, has being released by HBO and samples music from the show’s last season. Other artists on the soundtrack include Method Man, Estelle, Killswitch Engage and Talib Kweli.
The first instalment featured the likes of Common, Big Boi and Wale.
“Off the top, I love Game of Thrones – I even gave my expert analysis of this season on my GGN show,” Snoop Dogg said in a statement. “It’s like the rap game, it’s gangster, about family, loyalty and trying to get to the top. I had to get involved. Give the fans a little bit of how I see it.”
Anthrax founder Scott Ian previously said of his involvement: “All of you out there who watch Game Of Thrones, much like me, probably think it’s a very metal TV show. And just know: the reason for that is that one of the creators [DB Weiss] is a huge metalhead.”
Anthrax recorded drums for the album in the famed Westeros throne room, from the HBO set in Belfast. “I asked Dan, ‘Hey man, what would be the possibility of us recording the drums for the next album in the throne room?’ Like we bring a mobile studio and set up the drums, mic everything and record in here. He says, ‘Oh my God, that would be the sickest thing ever. We know the guys that can make that possible.'” Ian said.
Last month, Enter Shikari covered the Game Of Thrones theme tune during a live session on BBC Radio 1.
Season Five of the show premieres in April on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
