There is only one new entry in this week’s Top 40 singles chart

Little movement in the chart as Blossoms and Major Lazer remain No 1

There is only one new entry in the Top 40 singles chart this week – for a song that was No 41 last week.

The way the singles chart is compiled has come in for increasing criticism, after Drake spent 15 weeks at No 1 with ‘One Dance’.

The average length for a single inside the Top 40 is now 15 weeks, making it increasingly difficult for any new artists to break through since compilers Official Charts Company introduced streaming as well as sales into the charts in February 2015.

The only new entry this week is from Martin Garrix’s ‘In The Name Of Love’. Garrix, who is the ninth-highest-paid DJ in the world, climbs 10 places to No 31.

Major Lazer, who replaced ‘One Dance’ at No 1, remain on top for a fourth week with their Justin Bieber and MO collaboration ‘Cold Water’. They hold off another Bieber collaboration, DJ Snake’s ‘Let Me Love You’, which remains at No 2.

On the album chart, Blossoms are No 1 for a second week with their self-titled debut. It’s the first album to be at No 1 for longer than a week since ‘25’ by Adele in March.

PartyNextDoor is the only new entry in the Top 40 album chart, but there were no other high-profile releases last week. The Canadian rapper enters at No 11 with his album ‘P3’.
