Michael Phelps reveals what he listens to before a race

The Olympic swimmer’s pre-race ritual includes EDM

Michael Phelps has revealed that he listens to Eminem and EDM before a race.

The swimmer, who is the most decorated Olympian of all time, often listens to music right up to the start of a competition.

“I have walked out to race with my headphones on throughout my whole career and listen to music until the last possible moment,” he told the Guardian in 2005. “It helps me to relax and get into my own little world.”

Now Phelps has finally shed some light on exactly what he’s been jamming out to all these years.

In an interview with NBC, the swimmer said that his favourite artist is Eminem and that he also listens to Skrillex and Steve Aoki before hitting the pool.

Prior to winning gold in Saturday’s 4x100m relay, Phelps says he put on Skrillex’s remix of Nero’s ‘Promises’ and Aoki and Afrojack’s ‘No Beef’.

Meanwhile, the UK’s Olympic gold medalist swimmer Adam Peaty has said that he prepares for a race by listening to grime.
