Perry leads tributes to late colleague, who passed away aged 37
Jake Bailey, a makeup artist for musical artists including Katy Perry and Selena Gomez, has died at 37 in an apparent suicide.
Bailey was found dead in his Los Angeles home after being found by his assistant on Friday morning (October 23). TMZ reports that he “succumbed to carbon monoxide.”
A spokesperson for Bailey issued the following statement:
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Jake Bailey’s passing. He was an undeniable talent, a great friend, a loving son and brother, and our grief is shared with all those whose lives he’s touched.
“As one of the industry’s most sought-after makeup artists, Jake worked with an incredible client roster and his work has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair, and Allure. He collaborated with some of the top photographers in the fashion and entertainment industries and was also a passionate photographer himself. Jake was a mentor to many, and his work will continue to inspire. He will be truly missed by those who knew him.”
Perry led the tributes, writing a lengthy piece about Bailey on Instagram. “You essentially created my “look” ever since we met on the music video for ‘Hot and Cold’, she said. “We always confided in each other, rallied each other at our lows and pushed each other to be our best. We never got comfortable and I know that was why we did the best work together.”
