Student who found water on Mars used to be in a heavy metal band

Lujendra Ojha was guitarist in the band Gorkha

Earlier this week, NASA announced that there have been signs of liquid water found on Mars, a finding that dates back to a study helmed by an undergraduate at University of Arizona.

Lujendra Ojha, now a graduate student at Georgia Tech, was the person to first propose the findings which led to NASA’s investigation.

Now, it has been revealed that the Nepalese-American used to be in a heavy metal band called Gorkha.

He told CNET: “Yeah, that was an old life. I was kind of in poverty with music. I wasn’t making enough money so I said screw music, let’s go to science, maybe there’s more money in it. But there isn’t money in science either.”

Describing his life since the announcement, Ojha added, “Yeah, yeah. It’s been great. I’m not on a vacation…I’m here trying to do some experiments, but yeah…tough luck, right?”

No recordings have been found of Ojha’s old band but you can see a picture of him below.
