Magnetic Man producer Benga explains how bipolar diagnosis led to his retirement from music

DJ and producer tells fans he was once sectioned but is recovering with the help of doctors and his partner

DJ and producer Benga has opened up about the mental health issues that he says caused him to retire from music in 2014.

Benga, one third of Magentic Man alongside Skream and Artwork as well as an artist in his own right, announced his retirement last year. At the time he said that the reason he was leaving music was to start a family.

However, in a series of tweets sent this morning (September 16), the dubstep producer stated that the real reason he made the decision was the he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and that the routine of touring was making his condition worse.

“My bipolar was brought on by drugs and the schizophrenia was the result of excessive touring” he tweeted, going on to state that he was sectioned at one point.

However, Benga says he has now recovered and is looking to help others who may be going through a similar situation.
