Police investigating allegation of rape at Secret Garden Party

The festival has put out an appeal for witnesses

Cambridgeshire Police are investigating an alleged rape at Secret Garden Party on Friday (July 24).

The organisers of the festival have put out an appeal for witnesses after a woman reported being raped in a tent early on Friday morning.

Posters were placed around the site, which read, “Police are appealing for any witnesses who might have heard screaming in the early hours of Friday morning, or seen/heard anything suspicious. Officers are warning Gardeners to be extremely vigilant and take care if deciding to take any substances.”

On the official website of the festival, a statement reads, “A woman has alleged that she was raped in the early hours of Friday 24 July in one of the tented areas of the Secret Garden Party site. The Secret Garden Party team are working closely with the police to assist them with their investigation.”

The festival organisers are encouraging anyone who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in the early hours of Friday morning to contact a police officer on-site, visit the welfare tent, call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Secret Garden Party takes place in Abbots Ripton, Huntingdon. This year’s lineup included Jungle, Public Service Broadcasting, Ibeyi, Say Lou Lou, Darwin Deez and Marika Hackman.
