Radio X has announced that it will host an album playback showcasing Viola Beach’s debut LP at 9pm on Thursday, July 28. The band’s posthumous LP will see full release via their own Fuller Beans Records label this Friday (July 29).
The Warrington quartet tragically lost their lives, along with their manager Craig Tarry, in a car accident in Sweden earlier this year.
Radio X presenter Maz Tappuni from Communion, who worked closely with the four-piece, will play all nine tracks from their self-titled LP, interspersed with tributes and testimonials from their loved ones. Fellow musicians Eliza and the Bear and Blossoms will also feature on the hour-long special.
Speaking about the album playback, Mike Walsh, Radio X head of music, said in a press release: “We were lucky enough to cross the path of Viola Beach very early on here at Radio X and were all struck by their energy and potential. We were horribly shaken by the news of the tragic accident in February and decided then to honour the memory of the band as much as we can.
“The more music we heard, the more we loved it and it seemed natural to tell their story, and our special album playback show is one of the ways that we’re celebrating the music of this brilliant young band. We hope that as many people as possible hear this truly great British debut album.”
Viola Beach’s self-titled LP was announced last month (June), and will include ‘Swings & Waterslides’, which entered the UK Singles Chart following the tragedy, and lead single ‘Boys That Sing’. Hear the latter song here.
A statement from the band’s families at the time read: “We are tremendously proud of everything the boys achieved in such a short space of time. Craig, Jack, Kris, River and Tom shared a huge passion, talent and dedication to music.”
