Mogwai also hit the Top Ten with latest record 'Rave Tapes'
Warpaint have scored a Top Ten album on the Official UK Albums Chart with their self-titled second album.
The LA quartet released the follow-up to 2010’s ‘The Fool’ with ‘Warpaint’ on Monday (January 20), with the record going straight into the charts at Number Nine. Scottish post-rock group Mogwai have also entered the upper echelons of the chart with their latest LP ‘Rave Tapes’ reaching Number Ten, giving the band their highest chart entry to date.
Elsewhere in the Official UK Albums Chart, Ellie Goulding can boast the highest-selling album of the year so far with her second record ‘Halcyon’ reclaiming the top spot from this week’s Number Two, Bruce Springsteen’s ‘High Hopes’.
Beyonce’s surprise self-titled album is still doing well, coming in at Number Three this week, whilst Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s latest ‘Wanderlust’ debuts at Number Four. EDM DJ and producer Avicii’s ‘True’, meanwhile, is at Number Five.
Meanwhile in the Official UK Singles Chart, Cambridge graduates Clean Bandit have taken the Number One position with their track ‘Rather Be ft Jess Glynne’. The Official Charts Company reports that the four-piece sold 163,000 copies of the single this week, making it the year’s fastest-selling single so far and the biggest weekly sale for a Number One single in January since Babylon Zoo released Spaceman in 1996.
The group knocked last week’s Number One, Pharrell’s ‘Happy’, off the top spot and into the Number Two position this week. The Vamps are at Number Three with ‘Wild Heart’, marking their second Top Five single, and girl group Neon Jungle are at Number Four with ‘Braveheart’. Pitbull and Ke$ha complete the Top Five with their collaboration ‘Timber’.
